The active playing rules for the QLC will be based off of the 2014-15 Hockey Canada Rule/Casebook combination, with few exceptions.
In general, the QLC follows the standard rules of the game hockey. The notes below indicate the rules and regulations that cater specifically to the tournament.
GAME SET UP:
Warmup: Warmup will be 3 minutes from the scheduled start of the game.
Period Length: The QLC plays three (3) twelve (12) minute periods, running time. If the game is within 2 goals, the final 2 minutes of the third period will be stop time. There will be no timeouts in round robin games.
Round Robin Tie: If at the discretion of tournament officials, referees, or rink officials, there is insufficient time for a shootout, games in the round robin may end in a tie.
Round Robin Shootout: In the event of a tie in a round robin game, time permitting, teams will compete in a 3 person shootout. If tied after 3 shooters, it becomes a sudden death shootout thereafter. Shooters from both teams will shoot at the same time. Players may not shoot twice until every player has shot once.
Elimination Game Overtime/Shootout: In the event of a tie in an elimination game, teams will compete in a 4 minute, running time, 3-on-3 sudden death overtime. If the game remains tied after overtime teams will compete in a 3 person shootout. If tied after 3 shooters, it becomes a sudden death shootout thereafter. Shooters from both teams will shoot at the same time. Players may not shoot twice until every player has shot once.
Tie Break For Ranking:
Tie breaking is in the following order: goal differential (max 5/game), Goals against, Lowest Penalty Minutes (timekeepers record), then a coin toss conducted by a neutral party.
